Citipati, Chitipati wooden mask, handpainted - RITUAL ITEM
This is a Cham Dance Mask of the Deity Citipati. This is an oversized piece primarily for wall decoration. Caved in wood, and hand painted. Very large and impressive.
Citipati is a wrathful deity and one of the several manifestations of Mahakala. Citipati is also considered a very important protector of the doctrine in Tibetan and Vajrayana Buddhism.
In Tibet Buddhist monks perform twice a year a special "cham dance" ritual wearing the Citipati masks and dancing in the monastery cemetery. The skull mask of Citipati is a reminder of the impermanence of life and the eternal cycle of life and death.
This is a highly unique and exclusive item. A unique opportunity to own a real piece of high quality Tibetan artisan ritual piece. I am very glad to be able to offer some craft-items from Nepal. These are handmade and smaller imperfections can occur.
