Manhunter, The Story of the Swedish Occultist and Serial Killer Thurneman
In the 1930s, there was a series of robbery-murders in the Swedish town of Sala. When the perpetrators were caught, it turned out that they were part of a secret occult organization called The Magic Circle.
The Sala gang, as they were also known, was led by a charismatic occultist, hypnotist and serial killer by name Sigvard Thurneman.
Thurneman had already during childhood contact with mysterious visitors from the other side, whom he identified as manifestations of Satan. Even in adulthood, Thurneman was in contact with these dark beings through his astral experiences. Thurneman also came to carry out murders and robberies, which he said were part of his black magic rituals.
Thurneman, whose name was an anagram of the word "Manhunter," understood that the other side or the hidden spiritual world and the dark powers could only be perceived through alternative states of consciousness induced through, lucid dreaming, astral projections, awakening of kundalini (which he considered to be the divine power in man), hypnosis, and experiments with psychedelic drugs. Among other things, he used the traditional witch's herb henbane in his ceremonies.
In dark magic/left path/vama marga antinomianism is an important and fundamental element that involves deliberately breaking society's morals and rules. Thunemann meant, in line with this, that the laws of society are based on Christian rules and Christian morality. Thurneman said that if you were not a Christian, you did not have to follow the laws of society. Thurneman took this to the extreme through his criminal activities. Because of this, Thurneman has been described in the mainstream media as a criminal who introduced magic into crime, when in fact he was a magician who introduced crime into magic.
The book deals with both Thurneman's criminal activities and his darker occult orientation.

Thurneman claimed that the robbery murders were related to black magic rituals and that he was in contact with dark entities on the astral plane. The Magic Circle conducted seances, led by Thurneman, under the spell on incense made from henbane.
